New moon card: Taurus
A new moon is the first phase in the lunar cycle, the beginning of a fresh cycle that represents new beginnings and presents the ideal time for setting intentions for the month ahead. Every new moon Rebecca Marr intuitively pulls a card from her pack based on the energy of the current astrological season. This beautiful offering provides a focus for the month ahead, along with a guided ritual to help you deeply connect with the energy of the current new moon.
New moon in Taurus card
Rebecca’s card, for the new moon in Taurus, is BREATH, deeply resonant for the times we are currently living in when the most dangerous coronavirus symptom is difficulty breathing – and when just about the whole world is on lockdown, literally holding its breath before ‘normal’ life restarts. And meanwhile the earth has been given a breather from man, with pollution down and the ozone layer healing…
BREATH ~ The rhythm of my breath directs the rhythm of my life
Breath is the scared thread that runs through us all. Each and every one of us needs to breathe to be alive. It enhances our awareness, allows us to shape our perspective and enlivens our presence moment to moment.
Slow down and deepen your breath. If you listen closely your breath has a rhythm. If you feel closely your breath has a pattern. Your breath responds to mood, emotion, movement and energy. The simple act of breathing can be incredibly healing when practised mindfully. Your breath may change when you are tense or soft, resting or dancing, or feeling angry. Breath is present through it all. A deeper and more rhythmic breath will bring more centred awareness into your entire being. As you cultivate a practice of healthy breathing, the world around you and within you will respond to this shift.
RITUAL: pranic breathing
Pranayama translates to the ‘control of breath’. It supports and shapes our ‘prana’ – our vital energy and life force. Learning to control your breath and energy is an invaluable tool for a healthy body and mind. Practise the following for 3-11 minutes and revisit this tool often.

- Find a stable, relaxed sitting position with straight upright spine and soft face.
- Breathe through your nose, observing the natural rhythmic repetition.
- Begin to mentally count the length of your breaths, slowly and steadily. Start with a four count of equal length: Inhale 1, 2, 3, 4. Exhale 1, 2, 3, 4. After several rounds, increase to a six count, an eight count, possibly a ten count. Continue for several minutes.
- Then increase your exhale by two to four seconds longer than your inhale: Inhale 1, 2, 3, 4. Exhale 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Continue to increase the count as you go, for several more minutes. Be absorbed by the metronomic rhythm.
- When complete, become aware of any changes you feel and repeat the mantra three times.
