Having trouble getting off to sleep?
Wake up in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep?
Tossing and turning with your mind churning?
Suffering from a longterm illness or in pain that disrupts your sleep?
Our busy daily lives can leave us feeling physically tense, mentally exhausted and emotionally drained, and a good night’s sleep often seems elusive. Lack of sleep can contribute to our stresses, affecting our moods, immune system, digestion and craving stimulants such as sugar and caffeine. Reading a book, watching the television or taking an afternoon nap can provide a superficial feeling of relaxation but these pastimes are unable resolve the inner tensions and overthinking that prevent restful sleep.
Angela Keen’s yoga therapy workshop aims to bring about a restful state that induces the parasympathetic nervous system (associated with the body’s rest and digest responses such as slowing the heart rate and lowering blood pressure), and encourages digestion, promotes muscle relaxation and regulates sleep patterns.
The session begins with mindful breath awareness followed by yoga asanas to stretch and relax the muscles before being guided into a profound state of physical, mental and emotional relaxation with the systematic meditation method of yoga nidra.
