Description

Our special herbal Immune Boost Mix is a potent protection against colds, flu and any other infections and viruses that are doing the rounds. A blend of three well-proven immune-defence herbs, it can be taken to prevent you catching winter bugs, plus it reduces the length and severity of symptoms.

Immune Boost Mix is a blend of astragalus, echinacea and elderberry

Echinacea

This herb is a no1 immune booster with a well-documented track record as an anti-bacterial and anti-viral powerhouse. It works by boosting interferon, a mechanism the body produces to signal that you have incoming bacteria or viruses that need to be treated as enemies, causing cells nearby to heighten their defences. Not only can echinacea help stop you getting colds and flu, it will also reduce their duration and severity. In one double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of more than 1,000 adults those given echinacea recovered from a cold in just two-thirds the time it took the placebo group.

Astragalus

This is a herb that the Chinese crumble into baby food to give their youngsters immune protection. It stimulates our white blood cell count (leukocytes), the body’s primary fighters involved in protecting us from infections and foreign invaders. It also acts as a powerful anti-inflammatory, and is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine as an adaptogen (to help the body ride the ups and downs of stressful lives).

Sambucus (elderberry)

Elderberry has a high antioxidant content, preventing the production of free radicals (damaged cells that have mutated from healthy ones, and have the potential to cascade around the body destroying healthy processes) by terminating the chain reaction that leads to the cell damage. It has been found to be especially beneficial for respiratory problems and flu.

Recommended dosage: We advise you take our Immune Boost Mix from November to March, 1tsp in water daily as a preventive and 1tsp twice or three times days should you fall ill.

Please note: The use of the herb during pregnancy or whilst breastfeeding is not recommended in the UK. If you wish to take echinacea in these situations it is recommended that you consult a doctor or other healthcare professional. Although there is no evidence that use of echinacea by pregnant or breastfeeding women will be harmful only a few studies have been performed to demonstrate that it is safe to do so. In the absence of more conclusive evidence the UK Department of Health takes the view that the benefits of using products containing echinacea herb during pregnancy or breastfeeding are outweighed by the risks.
