Hayfever

The Hub’s homeopath Sue Leach outlines how getting some homeopathic treatment  for hay fever NOW before the hayfever season starts could help you suffer less – or even not at all

It’s difficult to think of bright sunshine and the darling buds of spring in February, especially with all the damp and cold we’ve been having lately. But if you’re prone to sneezes, snuffles and sore eyes as soon as the warmer weather arrives, then you need to get some homeopathic treatment for hayfever NOW before the hayfever season starts.

Homeopathy can offer not only relief from hayfever symptoms but, with good-quality treatment, it can actually prevent you suffering altogether. If you have homeopathic treatment before the hayfever season begins your symptoms are likely to be less severe and the length of time you suffer should be shorter.

Homeopathic treatment for hayfever works in several ways:

  • by raising your body’s own in-built energy so you are more immune to the usual triggers for your symptoms, such as grass, pollen and mould.
  • by ‘desensitising’ you to particular allergens. Homeopaths can give a dose of the particular culprit(s) for your sneezing and sniffles, be they hay, grass, pollen, trees or (in the case of asthma sufferers) house dust mite, which raises your immunity to them.
  • by getting to the heart of why you suffer from hayfever as well as dealing with your symptoms. This may be an inherited tendency to allergic responses, or the problem might be stress related, or may have started after a jolt to the system like an illness or vaccination. Sometimes by tracing back to when the hayfever began or addressing these underlying causes a homeopath can stop you suffering.

In 2012 I conducted an audit of my hayfever results. Here were my findings:

  • 100% of patients experienced some improvement in their symptoms.
  • 100% of patients reduced their over-the-counter medication, with all of them ceasing to use OTC drugs by May except for brief lapses.
  • These lapses were (in three cases) due to going on holiday to a different part of the country or (in two cases) while suffering from emotional upheaval.
  • The degree of improvement in symptoms varied from 50% to100% over the season, with the average improvement 75% within three months.
  • One participant continued to take antihistamines throughout the season but his reduction in symptoms was significant. By July he had no hayfever, whereas he usually continues to suffer until October, and he took no time off school whereas for many years he missed several days due to his hayfever.
